The Luton Town Football Programme, in partnership with Hitchin Town FC and Barnfield College, is a combined football and education programme for players between 16-18 years, designed to bridge the gap between grassroots and academy football.
Players on the programme train four times a week at The Arena in Baldock, North Hert’s state of the art training facility with 3rd generation artificial pitch, and play weekly competitive matches in the National Football Youth League which is solely for Premier League and Football League clubs. The league demands a high standard of football through which players may progress further with both Hitchin & Luton Town. We have many success stories with players going on to train and sign with the Luton’s Scholars, other League Two teams, including Colchester Utd’s recent signing of former student, Will Wright (pictured), and several players selected for Hitchin Town’s 1st team, most recently current student/player Desejado Da Silva (pictured) who impressed in the FA Youth Cup. 
Being part of the programme allows players direct access to the same expert UEFA ‘A’ & ‘B’ Luton Town FC coaches that work with the club’s academy teams.
Alongside the football, players also complete a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport, delivered on site by the highly skilled teaching staff provided by Barnfield College. This is a two year programme and the end destination is either Higher Education at University, a third year on the programme studying personal training, or employment. The course offers a wide variety of units within the sporting industry where students can go on to specialise in a number of career pathways including: coaching, teaching, therapy, strength and conditioning, nutrition, psychology and sports development (along withothers). There are also opportunities for work experience, apprenticeships and coaching with Hitchin Town FC, as well as the chance to earn FA coaching badges.
The Luton Town Football Programme is an excellent way for young, willing talent to build a platform for their future playing and non-playing careers. The programme provides players with the skills required to help them progress to a higher standard of both education and football, as well as giving them the necessary experience to work within community football coaching and other areas of the sports industry.
