About The Course
Looking for a career in sport? Want to receive professional football coaching? Passionate about sport and fitness? Then Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s BTEC course could be for you!
Our BTEC Level Three Extended Diploma in Football and Education Programme will provide you with the chance to gain coaching qualifications, represent Shrewsbury Town Football Club in a National Development League and will prepare you for your next move, whether it is using the transferable skills you will have learnt to move into the world of work, or go on to study at university.
Who is it For?
This programme is for those aged between 16-18 years of age, and have 5 A-C GCSE grades or equivalent qualifications. These should include English (Language or Literature) AND Maths.
It is for whoever wants to develop their football skills whilst learning transferable skills that will prepare you for higher education and employment.
This is a unique opportunity for those of you who prefer to learn practically, whilst most of the academic sessions will take place at Shrewsbury College, who work in partnership with Shrewsbury Town Football Club and Shrewsbury Town in the Community.
What Does the Course Involve?
This programme involves a minimum of 6 hours per week of practical sessions which will include football and strength and conditioning coaching from professional FA qualified coaches from Shrewsbury Town in the Community.
You will study modules such as Coaching for Sports Performance, Sports Leadership, Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Psychology and Sports Massage. You will also receive a full enrichment programme, so each student will have FA level 1 coaching qualifications and others to add to their portfolio once their BTEC academic journey is over.
Students will need to be prepared to fully engage in all physical practical sessions, including fixtures where they will run out in the Shrewsbury Town FC kit and compete against other Premier League and Football League teams. You will also apply your skills and knowledge to successfully complete the requirements of the BTEC academic qualifications.
This programme is primarily an education programme focused on young players that have played at a county or representative standard in the past. The young people that qualify for the programme will have the opportunity to be selected for the England national U 19’s league squads.
The course will be assessed via continuous coursework throughout the 2 year programme and there will also be two externally assessed examinations due to the introduction of the new 2016 BTEC framework.
Depending on your ability and progression, may also have the opportunity to train and play with the clubs Scholarship programme.
If selected for this programme you will need to purchase your own training kit which has to be worn to each training session and on journeys to game days. Your match-day kit will be provided for each student with no additional cost.
Shrewsbury Town in the Community and Shrewsbury College deliver various trips and visits that have costs attached to them. They are not compulsory. However, if you wish to take part in any of these speak to any member of the sport team for information and availability.
