The Barnet Football Club Elite Development Programme is a full-time education and football course hosted on site at Barnet Football Club’s The Hive stadium and training complex. The football element of the programme is delivered by Barnet F.C academy coaching staff and offers 16-18 year olds the opportunity to partake in a full-time football programme as well as providing a multitude of academic opportunities.
Our thriving scheme offers students an opportunity to take part in a football schedule that provides a range of multidisciplinary facets to supplement a busy fixture and training calendar. Students will receive a regular Strength & Conditioning session and Analysis work, with fixtures filmed and both individual and team clips available. Goalkeepers will receive individual coaching with a specialist goalkeeper coach, and opportunities for individual and position specific player improvement are prioritised.
There are 3 separate squads, with one group playing in the National Youth Football League, which offers a superb chance for players to test themselves against other EPL and EFL club sides and their respective programmes. With fixtures held on a Wednesday, the week is geared towards matchday which provides an excellent buzz around the club with three different sides playing fixtures either home, at The Hive, or away.
The programme places great importance on academics, with the club in partnership with Canons High School to offer a variety of courses for students. Students are offered a choice of A-Levels and BTEC Diplomas, suitable to the individual’s needs, and all courses are taught at Canons High School- a mere 3 minute walk from The Hive. Canons High School has been awarded Ofsted outstanding status and gives students the secure education they need to supplement their passion for football. With the courses on offer, and a close network of support from teachers at the school, Barnet F.C’s Head of Education and Welfare, and the academy and elite development programme staff, students are equipped with the necessary qualifications and tools to seek opportunities in further education; be that university or apprenticeship schemes.
Our programme continues to pride itself on its close links with the Youth Team. Coaching staff are in regular dialogue with Youth Team staff regarding potential progression routes, and last season (16/17) alone saw 11 different players train and play with the Youth Team for a period of time. Of those, 4 players progressed into their second year as Youth Team squad members, with one player going on to receive a scholarship and then play for the first-team in this season’s (17/18) F.A Cup.
The Barnet Football Club Elite Development Programme is as close as you can get to playing for a professional football academy, with a stellar education provision to go alongside.
