The Wycombe Wanderers Football & Education Academy enables learners to study the Level 2 & 3 BTEC Diplomas in Sport over a period of two/three years. Additionally, learners from year two can progress to a third programme studying a Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Sports and Exercise Sciences. This allows learners to continue their football development and incorporates a work experience placement.
While the programme is primarily focused on helping prepare students for moving into employment or further study by providing valuable qualifications, the time spent at the academy also involves football training and/or matches over 5 days per week.
The programme is open to males aged 16-19 years old who, in addition to their studies, represent Wycombe Wanderers FC playing football in a competitive Under 19 National Football Youth League which is as close which is as close to academy football as you can get because the league is solely for Premier League and Football League clubs. Additional friendlies against other programmes and professional clubs are held throughout the season.
Based at a fantastic venue in Stokenchurch near High Wycombe (which boasts numerous learning suites, an indoor gym, an indoor sports hall, plus outdoor pitches) the programmes academic studies are delivered by our principle partner “ProCo”. The curriculum is delivered using an exciting education management system that allows learners to complete their study programme online. Learners study online resources, complete and submit assignments remotely as well as providing the opportunity for parents to check their son’s progress whenever they wish.
Taught both practically and theoretically, the programme allows development of knowledge in a range of sports topics whilst also developing both football coaching and playing skills. Learners complete their FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football which is supported by a work experience placement. The training schedule is then complemented by an extensive games programme against other teams playing in the National Football Youth League.
Following successful completion of the programme, exit routes can include university, USA football scholarships, work within community football coaching programme or a career in the sport & leisure industry.
